门萨即Mensa，是一个由世界上少数聪明人组成的俱乐部。只有两类人有资格加入它，一类是通过“门萨测试”，获得前2％成绩的人；一类是通过被国际门萨认证的斯坦福－比奈测试题(132分以上)或卡特尔测试题(取得148分以上)的人。他们都是极端少见的聪明人，真不知道他们都聚在一起会做什么、怎么做。

从门萨历史档案说起

在1945年8月的英格兰，不知是在二战结束前还是结束后，在从滑铁卢开往吉尔福德的火车头等舱里，两位百无聊赖的上流绅士相遇了。

首先，留着小胡子的罗兰·巴瑞尔发话了，他看见对面那个纤瘦的小伙子在阅读最新的英国议会议事录，于是问了个有点儿愚蠢的问题：“年轻人，你是在看那本议会杂志吗?”好在对面的小伙子，即兰斯洛特·莱昂内尔·维恩，我们叫他维恩吧，那天心情不错，回答“当然”。不然的话真不知道我们今天该在这里讨论什么了。

按照另一个门萨——伍迪·艾伦的书作《门萨的娼妓》中的描述推理，门萨因为其见识广博、反应快速、奇特而可谓最好的聊伴，所以维恩和巴瑞尔迅速搭上了话。当时，30岁的维恩还是牛津大学政管系的学生，49岁的巴瑞尔是对占星术和面相学都很感兴趣的律师，巴瑞尔正好想去牛津深造，游览名校，所以他就住到了维恩的公寓里。两个一见如故的人当然喜欢寻找彼此的共同点，不知道是偶然还是必然，共同点在他们一起做一套卡特尔智商测试题时出现了——他们的分数都很高，创建一个汇集聪明人俱乐部的念头应运而生。

1946年，俱乐部定名为“Mens”，因为觉得过分像本男性色情杂志的名字，于是改为拉丁语“Mensa”，即圆桌，意味着围坐者人人平等，而这个词在墨西哥俚语中，代表蠢货。维恩曾因腻味了智力游戏而一度离开门萨，巴瑞尔也因为迷上了网球，急于在温布尔顿打出成绩而把门萨放到一边，1961年，巴瑞尔死后，维恩回来，打算在这个沉迷于智力题的组织上下最后一番工夫，把它打造成一个具有社会意义、“应该为解决世界的问题贡献智慧”的组织。不料，维恩想象的社会意义最终也没有取得，门萨历史上也曾经出现过几个企图用智商影响社会的会员，不过最后都是不了了之。2001年维恩去世时，他被《经济学人》杂志称为“最后一个企图用头脑影响世界的聪明人”。

虽然没有用头脑改变社会，不过门萨会员们还是发生了一些变化，他们的会员不是自诩精英、持仗智商的“智力清教徒”，不是爱耍小聪明、说双关语的讨厌鬼，也不是孤僻的科学怪人，而是越来越充满幽默感，热衷于交流和挑战，至此，门萨会员已经可以这样解释了：“门萨吸收的并不见得是最聪明的人，而是自认聪明而又乐意和人交流的人。”

从“健脑房”到“社交圈”

管延放很早就知道“门萨”这个组织了，以至于现在都回想不起来是什么时候知道的。对管延放来说，他加入门萨和自我欣赏、自我崇拜无关，完全是出于个人爱做题的兴趣，“不知道你会不会有这样的感觉，可能是生活太过平淡吧，脑子一不动就昏昏沉沉的，用这些题激荡一下，会让我更清醒。”管延放实际能代表一部分门萨的心声。

不过，他们可并没有沉迷于脑力厮杀和智力题。“我们更多时间还是像朋友聊天一样。你跟朋友在一起聊什么，我们就聊什么。”管延放说，“对我们来说，门萨给我们提供了多一个认识朋友的渠道，这也是扩大社交圈的一种办法吧。门萨的意义并不在于用一套他们视角的题来证明你足够聪明，因为智商到现在也没有公认的标准，门萨提供了一个切入视角。从门萨考测题你可以看出来，他们会尽量避免语言带来的文化障碍，题目多以图形为主，通过寻找规律来找到正确答案。私底下我们也在思考：为什么门萨要用这种题来测试入会者，图形规律又能说明什么问题?其实，门萨的用意在于模拟人的学习过程。平日，我们的学习是从书本获取信息，然后找到其中规律，进而往外推，找到有用信息、思考方法和答案。门萨试题就是在模拟这个过程。当然我不是专业心理学家，也不能给出官方解释。”

的确，与其想象门萨是一个“健脑房”，还不如想象门萨是一个“社交圈”，会员的社交方式就是通过200多个各式各类的“特殊兴趣小组”(SIG)，从非洲紫罗兰到动物学，从福尔摩斯到星际旅行，从收集各国菜单到热衷于使用基因库的“优生学组”，甚至还有一群被囚禁的会员组成了“蹲监狱的门萨人小组”。人们穿着各种各样带有颜色拥抱暗语的衣服参加活动比如如果你穿绿色，就意味着你愿意和任何会员拥抱：穿白色代表你会选择拥抱人，而红色代表拒绝拥抱。
