面对这样的教学现状,笔者认为,我们可以采取“补偿教学”策略。所谓“补偿教学”,就是在学习新的知识前,让认知缺乏的学生提前获得前置知识和情感铺垫,从而有效地扫除新授课前认知领域的障碍。

一、语言知识

1.把音标教学和字母、单词结合起来。

音标是英语发音和拼写的纽带,是学生学习英语的“拐杖”,音标学得扎实与否,直接影响学生的后续发展。

传统的音标教学注重知识的系统性,教学过程中,教师常常按照发音部位图,给学生讲解清辅音、浊辅音、双元音、唇齿音、舌位音等复杂的语言知识,然后要求学生进行机械的模仿训练。这样的教学方式往往使得学生能认识音标且能单独发音,却不会按照音标拼读单词,导致教学效果不佳。教师如果在学生学习英语的起始阶段,不断地向学生渗透字母名称音和其在单词中的读音间的区别和联系,就有助于学生掌握英语单词内在的音形规律。

2.把词汇教学和生活实际结合起来。

认知语言学认为,人类的思维活动大多在基本范畴层次上进行,反映在语言上,即日常用语主要集中在基本词汇上。因此,我们应首先重视基本词汇,在此基础上,再通过上下义的词汇关系扩展词汇量。教师应引导学生有意识地利用词缀、词源等知识增加词汇量,并建立起“词族”(word family)概念。

如,我们可以结合学生的家庭成员间的关系, 让他们有效地记忆father,mother,sister, brother,uncle,aunt,grandfather,grandmother等词汇;或根据家庭成员所从事的职业,让学生学习doctor,nurse,teacher,worker,driver,dancer,singer等词汇。在此基础上,我们可以进一步引导学生表达各自父母的工作内容,如“My father teaches in a school. ”“My mother works in a factory.”等。 由于这些话题与学生的生活息息相关,因而可以很好地激发他们的求知欲。

3.把词汇教学和语法教学结合起来。

词汇和语法作为语言学习中非常重要的两个部分,应当相互包含。教学过程中,教师要将两者有机结合,引导学生在词汇学习中理解语法,在分析语法时发现词汇运用的规律。

例如,学习了人称代词we,he,they,I和动词learn后,我们可以创设语境,让学生造句: “We learn English every day.”“He learns English every day.”“We are learning English now. ”……通过在语境中观察、比较名词复数的用法以及一般式中第一人称和第三人称动词的形式变化, 学生可以更加牢固地掌握所学的知识。

二、情感态度

1.适度期待。

教师要对不同学习程度的学生有不同的期望,并且,这些期望是学生通过努力能够达到的。当学生感受到教师对自己的期望,感受到教师对自己的信任后,他们的学习动机就会被大大激发,从而努力地去达成教师所期望的目标。

2.即时鼓励。

英语作为一门语言,让学生在基础学习阶段养成敢于开口大声诵读的习惯是非常必要的。朗读是一种有声的学习方法,是眼、口、耳等多种器官共同参与的过程。学生通过大声朗读, 既能听清自己的发音,也可以改正发音,还可以培养语感,因此,教师要坚持在课前、课中和课后提供一切机会让学生大声朗读。

2.预习复习的习惯。

“学起于思,思源于疑”,课前预习就是寻“疑”。

英语预习不同于其他科目,必须眼、耳、口、 脑、手并用,看内容,听磁带,读材料,记下疑点难点,寻找重点。学生经过有效的预习后,带着问题有的放矢地听教师讲解,学习起来就会感到轻松愉快,学习效果也会随之提高。

此外,“艾宾浩斯遗忘曲线”告诉我们,初次学习20分钟后,遗忘的内容很多,保留在脑海中的只有58.2%。因此,教师一定要帮助学生养成及时复习的习惯,引导他们及时消化、及时记忆。

三是有助于培养融洽的师生关系。“补偿教学”的优点在于面向全体学生,关注每一名学生,使英语基础较差或零基础的学生都能顺利地进入接下来的学习。由于师生双方怀着同样的目标,因此,他们交流的时间更多,经过一段时间的磨合,他们在言行上会有更多的默契。而学生在学习成绩提高后,也更加愿意与教师交流,从而形成一种融洽的师生关系,推动教与学的进一步开展。

Mrs White is a Canadian teacher.
