1. 当今集中流行的写作教学模式的缺陷

1.1 形式修辞法

形式修辞法 (Formalist) 强调的是文章的语言形式, 包括用词, 短语的选用, 语法的准确度等等。这种方法一般认为一篇好的文章在语法, 用词, 语义等文字表面没有错误甚至选词造句做到精准。在课堂上, 教师把教学的主要精力和时间花在用词和句法练习上, 教学生如何识别、避免、纠正语法和句型错误。这样的弊端是, 师生往往会把大量精力运用于词法, 句法, 语法而忽视了整个文章的总体逻辑和结构。

1.2 模仿学习

模仿学习法 (Mimet) 试图克服形式修辞法的缺陷与不足, 强调一篇好的文章需要内部逻辑清晰, 层次分明, 语义与文体准到位。要想做到这一点, 就必须培养学生的推理和逻辑思维能力。在英语课堂写作教学中, 首先要帮助学生提高“批判性阅读” (critical reading) 的能力, 在课前给予学生一些范文, 然后让学生去学习, 去模仿。然后教师再针对学生所写的文章给予点评。但是这样的话, 针对中国教师的现实现状, 一个老师平均带2到3个班, 每个班基本上50到60人, 教师根本没有时间和精力对每个学生的具体语言质量把关。

1.3 过程写作教学法

从20世纪80年代起, 美国的过程写作教学法 (Process) 逐渐在我国外语教学界引起注意并被广泛采用。在写作过程和写作结果当中, 这种模式更注重后者。写作被认为是由构思、撰写、修改、校订等一系列步骤组成的不断发现问题、分析问题、解决问题的思维过程, 同时教师和学习伙伴也应参与其中, 给予反馈、评估 (evaluating) 等, 以促进写作过程顺利完成。这个模式的指导思想认为, 写作过程是非单向的, 非直线性的。经过反复, 不断的个人修改以及他人包括教师和同伴的批改, 最终方可行程一篇结构完整, 思路清晰, 语法无误的文章。此处的修改不仅局限于语言的层面上, 如单词拼写, 语法错误 (第三人称单数, 名词的单复数) 还可以延生到语义范畴, 诸如结构严谨, 逻辑严密等。

“过程写作教学法”与其他模式相比, 无疑更能体现写作的本质, 教学效果理应更好。采用这种模式的教师发现现实中远远没有想象中的结果那么好, 因为思维的反复性导致学生要不断改写自己的文章, 一遍遍的重新抄写使学生的写作积极性大打折扣。另外, 教师将要付出巨大的劳动量来将学生的作文修改, 甚至一个学生的文章会改好几次最终成文。鉴于如此大的工作量, 笔者尝试在课堂中让学生形成小组, 互相批改, 如有疑问, 可当场咨询教师。这种尝试得到了很好的效果, 小组中的成员都尽力地去给另外一个组员评阅, 最终形成一篇甚至几篇好文章, 最后每个小组把唯一一篇最好的递交上来, 教师进行评阅, 对比, 然后把其中较好的当场做范例, 并且表扬其中几个小组的成果, 从而促进学生的学习写作的积极性。基于J.Charles.Alderson的团体动机理论, 培养学生对于整体的荣誉感, 有助于整个团队里每个成员对组织的贡献。所以为了使得整个团队能够获得更好的名次, 学生都踊跃的进行写作和批改。但是课堂的时间毕竟有限, 下了课之后学生就不去交流了, 所以笔者尝试进行网络批改, 在句酷批改网上面, 学生可以找到自己的组员, 随时进行批改和交流。

2. 网络教学批改对学生写作能力的促进

传统教学中, 教师发挥主导作用的同时往往忽视了学生主体地位的体现, 而且老师越主导, 学生就越被动。基于网络的他者评价体系既要充分发挥教师的主导作用, 又要突显学生在学习过程中的主体地位。事实上, 我们在引进他者评价体系的时候, 在这个问题上并没有盲日照搬, 而是结合我国的国情加以创造性的发展与应用。

基于过程教学法理论, 学生自动形成小组互相进行批改, 有助于他们之间互相交流, 共同提高, 但是学生的水平毕竟有限, 况且组员间的水平也参差不齐。这个时候就需要有一个客观的评价体系的出现, 最好是老师给出一个客观的评价, 但是鉴于这么做的话工作量巨大。所以笔者尝试使用网络批改, 即句酷批改网。把学生写好的文章, 输入到此网站中, 句酷批改网将利用自己巨大的语料库对学生作文进行自动批改, 然后给出分数, 学生可依据网络批改的建议, 一次次地修正, 直到满意为止。并且学生还可以把自己的作品在小组内分享, 大家互相修改作文, 直到满意为止, 然后发送给老师。教师做最后的评定, 这种方式可以节省大量宝贵的课堂时间, 课堂上只讲几篇学生经过数次修改的文章, 达到精讲精练的目的。并且因为每个学生有一个ID, 这样教师可以看到每个学生写了多少字, 用了多长时间, 根据网络提示, 自行修改了多少次等等。这样便有利于老师对学生有一个过程性评价。
