在英国生活过的人都知道，除了漫长阴冷的冬季，食物的单调乏味也是最让人头疼的事情。与英式餐厅大同小异的“Fish&Chips（炸鱼薯条）”招牌相比，打着“Dim Sum（点心）”字样的中餐馆是许多外国人的最爱。

听发音就能猜到，“Dim Sum”源自粤语。英国人离不了下午茶，红茶配甜点被认为是最惬意的休闲方式之一。虽然英语中不乏“糕点”一类的词语，但早已被粤式点心征服的英国人偏要学着粤语“点心”的发音，“请”进这么一个外来词，或许也体现了对中国饮食文化的肯定。同类的词语还有“Tofu（豆腐）”“Maotai（茅台）”等。

除了美食文化，中国古老的哲学思辨也令老外十分感兴趣。比如2013年9月，英国科学家曾公布一项新成果，说食盐增加高血压风险或许不是绝对的，因为虽然其中的钠离子会增加高血压风险，而氯离子却有利于降低高血压患者的死亡风险。在发布这项成果时，科学家在论文题目中用了“YinYang Effect（阴阳效应）”一词。的确，如果只能选一个词阐明这种思辨的哲学关系，中文的“阴阳”无疑是最佳选择。

“独有特色”的尴尬

如果说词汇是社会的一面镜子，那么这面镜子绝对不只照出光鲜的一面，有些词语并不那么“正能量”。这在一定程度上反映出外部世界对中国社会的认知，也显露出我们在发展中产生的一些有点尴尬的“独有特色”。

记得有一次与一个英国朋友吃饭，说起了在中国与英国办事的差异，记者用了“connection”一词，解释中国在很大程度上还是个“人情社会”，没想到，对方立即准确地说出“Guanxi（关系）”一词。

外国人对中国社会如此了解，让人惊讶。不过很快记者就发现，是自己“孤陋寡闻”了——“Guanxi（关系）”一词原来早就出现在《牛津英语词典》中，其解释为：源于中国普通话，字面上理解和“connection（联系）”同义，特指在中国有助于商业活动和其他交易的社交网络、有影响力的人际关系。

英文词典收入的类似词语还有“Laogai（劳改）”“Shuanggui（双规）”“Hukou（户口）”“Hongbao（红包）”等。这些词语直指中国社会发展中的一些特殊存在。

再回到“Tuhao（土豪）”一词。英国广播公司（BBC）的一档节目在谈到“Tuhao”进入词典时，这样解释该词含义：用来形容花钱铺张的人，那些无权无势的人使用该词来攻击有钱人。BBC认为，“土豪”的新含义与中国急剧变化的社会环境有关。

由此看来，“土豪”进入牛津词典，或许是个新鲜事，但似乎并无骄傲可言。

小学英语不仅是一门知识性学科，更是一门交际的基础工具学科，教学任务是培养学生的学习兴趣，培养学生综合运用英语的能力，引导他们形成开放、合理的跨文化认知与理解观念。要实现这个任务，仅教授学生掌握正确的语音、词汇、语法知识是不够的，还必须突出英语作为一种文化传承工具的性质，否则英语教学与英语本身承载的文化将会被割裂开来。

一、思考：洞察“英语文化”的课堂失误

1.顾此失彼，淡忘整体

在以往的教学中，我们往往只把目光聚焦在语言的学习和传授上，而忽略了语言背后所承载的文化。学生在阅读时，缺乏整体的把握，注意力只放在对孤立句子的理解上，纵使满纸中英文注释，可是对文章的整体意思还是不甚了解。

2.违背规律，机械操作

英语文化主要是指英语国家的历史地理、风土人情、传统风俗、生活方式、文学艺术、行为规范、价值观念、思维方式等。英语文化知识的缺乏，会导致对英语现象的理解不深刻，甚至产生误解。在进行跨文化交际时，往往习惯于中国文化的思维，遣词不当或不得体，甚至出现语用失误，使交流受阻。
