现行人教版教材中听说这块教学内容, 题材多样, 旨在培养学生运用英语进行交流、获取和处理信息及用英语思维的能力, 任务型教学理念突出, 体现交际功能。笔者在刚开学的一周教学中发现课堂上教师精心设计的话题, 本想与学生共同圆满完成教学任务, 但主动参与的学生屈指可数, 甚至有一部分学生一直保持沉默, 渐渐导致课堂上说英语的学生越来越少, 出现了大面积的“哑巴英语”现象。

(2) 问题的分析

针对上述发现的问题, 笔者结合相关教学理念, 并依据学生课内外说英语情况的反映, 对产生该问题的原因提出了以下4点假设:1) 教师没有营造良好的说英语氛围, 导致学生越来越不愿意说英语;2) 教师没有认真观察学生的细微变化和及时消除学生的自卑心理;3) 教师没有意识到学生的口语学习策略匮乏;4) 教师没有课前提示给学生一些词汇, 学生词汇量少致使其无法流畅地说英语。

同时, 笔者设计了一份《高一学生英语口语调查问卷》, 对十位学生的预测后, 与备课组的其他有经验的教师进行讨论之后得出如下结果:

1) 问卷调查结果否定了笔者提出的第一个假设。结果是100位学生认为教师营造了良好的说英语氛围, 而且他们也想用英语来表达自己的观点, 更知道英语口语学习的重要性, 希望自己能说一口流利的英语, 能跟同学在课内和课后用英语进行交流。

2) 学生易情绪化, 一旦某个学生的语音基础知识很薄弱, 他就会产生畏难情绪, 害怕说错而不敢大胆开口说英语。这100位学生当中有60%左右的学生认为老师为赶教学进度, 没有及时观察到他们说英语越来越少的细微变化并及时消除他们的自卑心理。

3) 高中教学与初中教学存在着一定的差异, 高一的口语课对这些新高一学生有了更高的要求, 有些学生无所适从, 主要是在口语学习策略的使用方面存在着一些问题, 在说的过程中, 习惯于用中文进行思维。当遇到听不懂对方的话时, 65%的学生常常一笑了之并期待着早点下课;当遇到不会用英语表达时, 80%的学生经常保持沉默, 25%的学生经常试着用另一种方法来表达, 20%从来不请教同学或教师, 15%的学生总是用中文来代替。

4) 词汇量小导致了他们怕说错的回避心理, 50%的人认为教师可以在课前先给点提示词并领读, 这样可以让他们在接下来的教学活动中使用, 这样可以少出现语塞现象。

此次调查还显示缺乏恰当的评价方式是阻碍学生口语能力的一个因素。课堂上教师一发现错误就立即打断学生;学生课内外参与说英语活动缺乏有效评价, 对学生说英语的激励、评估和约束不强, 打击学生参与口语实践的热情和积极性。

(3) 寻求解决问题的对策

1) 营造积极的口语氛围

教师要善于激起他们的表达欲望。这样, 学生便会踊跃发言, 发言的学生也会因此赢得赞扬, 自尊心得到极大的维护。

2) 帮助学生消除自卑心理

学生常常因为不能像别的同学那样会用英语表达而渐渐产生自卑心理。学生的面部表情、肢体语言都可能在向老师传递某种信息。教师需要认真观察学生的细微的变化, 巧妙运用合适的手段, 减轻直至消除学生的自卑心理。

3) 传递多种口语学习策略

教师要鼓励学生在课外听录音模仿、求助于同伴或教师、尝试用不同的方式表达同一个意思等来提高口语能力。同时熟悉一些套语有助于自然导入话题或及时结束交谈。

4) 帮助学生扩大词汇量

学生在说的过程中受词汇量小的影响很大, 一部分原因是学生不会读, 害怕读错, 所以笔者计划先有系统地进行语音和语法教学, 再有计划地分散到每个单元去复习语音和学习语法知识。通过向学生介绍记单词的科学方法, 如音形联系记忆、相互比较记忆、构词分析记忆、联想记忆等, 倡导学生合理地使用科学的记单词方法, 并且采用一定措施督促学生积累单词。

5) 适当表扬和鼓励学生

口语教学的顺利进行必须依赖于恰到好处的激励措施。有教育专家认为“好孩子是夸出来的”, 可见表扬、激励的重要作用。教师应以平等的姿态对待学生, 以与学生平等的身份参与课堂交际, 以克服学生对老师的畏惧心理。当学生在口语交际活动中出现受挫或力不从心时, 教师一个眼神、一个手势、一个微笑、一句充满深情的激励话, 会使学生内心迸发出巨大的学习动力, 进而全力以赴取得满意结果。

(4) 效果反馈与反思

经过8周的行动研究实践, 笔者发现:学生在课堂上参与课堂讨论的积极性提高;慢慢消除了以往的自卑心理;通过表扬和激励, 学生多次参与课堂发言, 体验说英语的成功喜悦, 同学和教师的评价使学生看到了自己的进步和大大激发了他们说英语的兴趣。

此次行动研究师生收益匪浅。笔者通过分析口语教学过程遇到的问题, 找出根本原因并分析对策。老师为学生创造了良好的情境, 学生能运用多种口语学习策略, 加上词汇量的增加使整个交际过程能顺利进行, 真正体现了新课程提出的“一切以学生的发展为本”的教学原则。

摘要:高一学生的英语口语能力差异悬殊, 导致课堂气氛沉闷, 学生不愿意说英语的现象越来越严重。针对这一现象, 笔者进行了为期两学期的口语教学行动研究。研究结果表明强化情感效果可以有效促进英语口语教学质量的提高。

一、利用晨读,养成读和背的习惯

英语是一个语言学科,读和背是基础,所以,一般各学校都为英语设晨读课,目的之一就是为学生创设一个学习英语的语言环境。如果你连晨读这30分钟的朗读时间都抹杀了,只是用来复习语言点或完成教师布置的书面作业,即使你的卷面分数再高你学到的也只是“哑巴”英语,没有任何语言沟通的能力。更何况,学习语言是有其自身规律的,只单纯强调语言知识而忽略了语言运用,就是舍本逐末。所以,我建议那些晨读时总是沉默不语的同学尽快地把嘴巴张开,尽可能大声地朗读。只有通过读和背才能纠正自己的语音、语调,形成自己的语流、语感,在大脑中储存足够的语言信息,也才能为以后的写作打下良好的基础,提高听说读写的综合能力。

从初中校园来到高中校园,高一新生对新环境充满好奇,也对高中英语学习充满信心。但随着学习的深入,学习内容的增多和难度的增大,高一新生从充满信心渐渐地变为怀疑自己的英语学习能力,失去学习兴趣,甚至产生畏惧情绪。如何帮助学生调整心态,有效推进高一新生英语学习的转型,是高中英语教师需解决的一个棘手问题。笔者从高一新生英语学习中存在的困难及成因分析入手,从教与学两方面探讨推进高一新生英语学习转型的有效方法。

一、高一新生英语学习中存在的主要困难及成因分析

(一)听力方面

由于受中考指挥棒的影响,初中英语教学过分重视读、写能力的训练,忽略了语音知识的学习、听力技能的培养及听力训练中的学法指导,学生听力水平普遍较低,给高中英语课堂教学造成一定的困难。

(二)單词记忆方面

大多数初中学生没有接受过语音、单词识记方法等方面的系统性训练,没有很好地掌握单词发音和拼写规律,单词记忆仍以死记硬背为主,造成基本语音知识和词汇运用能力较差,不能很好地结合语义语境理解单词。面对大量的高中英语词汇,高一新生不仅记起来困难重重,而且不懂如何使用,对于一词多义的现象更是不知所措。

(三)阅读方面

在英语阅读教学中,高一新生普遍表现出阅读能力不强、速度不快,对复杂句子理解不透,找不出相关信息和段落大意,难以把握文章主旨等的现象。究其原因,主要是初中英语阅读教学中涉及的材料内容单一,篇幅较短;好多教师把阅读教学变成了语言知识点的讲授,造成阅读教学重心偏差,不同程度上弱化了英语阅读材料应有的功能。

(四)语法方面

学生在语法方面存在的问题主要表现在知道的语法术语较少,对抽象的概括性的语法过于陌生;词性掌握不准,甚至个别学生没有词性概念,对词性与句子成分之间的关系不明确;多数学生不知道简单句的五种基本句型,能弄清楚复合句结构并能区别使用的学生是少之又少。

二、有效推进高一新生英语学习转型的探讨

(一)认真钻研和领会《英语课程标准》,明确各级知识和能力要求

《英语课程标准》对教师提出了心的教学要求,教师必须根据《英语课程标准》确定的总体目标、实施原则和建议,准确把握教学方向,制定科学合理的教学计划,以语言技能、语言知识、情感态度、学习策略和文化意识等素养为核心,提高学生的语言运用能力。

(二)贯通初、高中教材,对教材内容做到心中有数

初高中英语教材跨度较大,这使大部分高一新生很不适应高中英语学习。高中英语教师要善于结合教学实际的需要灵活地和有创造性地使用教材,对教材的内容、编排顺序和教学方法等方面进行适当的取舍或调整,把“教教材”改为“用教材教”,让教材真正成为一种教学资源,为教学服务;要熟悉初中教材,了解学生在初中英语学习中应掌握的词汇、句型和语法,这样才能在高一英语教学中做到有的放矢,逐步引导学生贯通知识经络,矫正学习方法,提高学习兴趣,提高学习效率。

(三)引导学生养成良好的英语学习习惯

良好的学习习惯是高中生学习品质的重要表现。教师要引导高一学生养成良好的预习、复习和记课堂笔记的习惯以及课外勤阅读、勤练笔、勤思考的习惯。

(四)优化教学模式,提高教学效率

初中英语课堂教学注重学生的主体地位,学生参与课堂教学的积极性高,课堂教学氛围活跃。高中英语课堂教学过分重视知识的传授和语言点的讲解,学生只是被动地听讲和记笔记,课堂成了教师个人的舞台,课堂教学沉闷,不易于调动学生的学习积极性。因此,教师应采用多种方式活跃课堂气氛,鼓励、引导学生积极参与教学活动,激发学生学习英语的兴趣;要加强教学反思,依据反馈信息,调整教学方法,提高课堂教学效率。

(五)强化语音教学,提升听力水平

“听懂会说”是一个人表达思想情感的前提。首先,教师要通过强化语音、词汇、语法教学,帮助学生突破语音知识关,增加学生词汇量,提高学生语法知识水平;其次,教师要按照由易到难的原则,精选听力材料;再次,教师要采用听读、听说、听写结合,精听与范听结合等形式,有效开展听力训练,培养学生的听力技巧。

(六)加强阅读训练,提升阅读能力

《普通高中英语课程标准(实验)》中明确提出:“根据高中学生认知能力发展的特点和学业发展的需求,高中英语课程应强调在进一步发展学生综合语言运用能力的基础上,着重提高学生用英语获取信息、处理信息、分析问题和解决问题的能力,特别注重提高学生用英语进行思维和表达的能力,为未来发展和终身学习奠定良好的基础。”教师要培养学生正确的阅读习惯,引导学生依据自己的学习水平,选择适合的阅读材料,并坚持每天阅读,同时在阅读技巧、速度方面做好学生的指导工作。

(七)倾注爱心,情感共鸣

智力、意志、情感是心理构成的三个基本因素。情感因素在培养学生学习兴趣,促进学生积极主动地接受知识的过程中起着关键作用。高一新生对新环境既好奇又畏惧,教师要抓住学生这一心理特点,用自己渊博的知识和对所教学科的热爱,赢得学生的尊重,用自己真心的付出和对学生无私的关爱,获得学生的心理认同,与学生取得心灵上的沟通,产生情感共鸣,从而顺利完成教学任务。

错误能让我们了解语言是如何被习得的,学习者可以通过错误发掘目标语言的内部规则(Corder, 1967)。学习者的词汇错误往往多于其他类型的错误(Johanson, 1978)。“词汇错误”是对目标语言词汇的形式或意义的偏差。被广泛接受的是James (2001)的分类,将词汇错误分为词汇形式错误和语义错误。形式错误分为形式误选,错误造词和字母误写;语义错误分为词义关系混淆和搭配错误。

国内外学者为词汇错误研究做了很多贡献。Duskova (1969)分析了50位捷克的硕士研究生写作中的错误,发现冠词错误最多,其次是词汇和形态的错误。国内学者宋(2011)调查了高中学生词汇错误,发现形式错误是最常见的错误, 其次是搭配错误和词类误用。以往研究者少关注高中英语学习初级阶段学生。因此本研究试图调查36位高一学生作文的词汇错误情况。

一、研究设计

本研究试图回答以下问题:

1.高一学生作文中出现的词汇错误主要是那一类型?形式错误还是语义错误?

2.形式错误和语义错误中的哪些子类型是较为频繁出现的?

本研究中的作文来源于河南省一所普通高中36位高一学生。题目是写一封信给英语杂志。学生需写下他们对假期通宵看电视和上网的看法。每篇作文由两位研究者分析,有争议时加以讨论得出结论。同一篇作文的同一错误反复发生时只算作一个。

二、结果与讨论

(一)两大类词汇错误的频次

从表一可以看出,形式错误占44%。语义错误占59%。语义错误总体上要比形式错误多。由此看来,学生所犯的形式错误要比语义错误少。主要是语义知识影响了词汇的正确使用。学生应意识到他们在语义方面的薄弱。但形式错误所占的百分比也不低, 学生在这类词汇错误上也不能忽视。

(二)子类型的频次

从表中可以看出,搭配错误是最频繁出现的,排在第二和第三位的是“字母误选”和“词义关系混淆”。这三种子类型占据了总词汇错误的80%。

诚然,搭配错误在作文中很常见,原因可能是学生尚未掌握词汇的实际使用。从结果中也可以看出,字母误写和词义关系混淆也很常见。因此,教师在教学过程中应该充分利用语境教学,注重词汇的实际用法,在此基础上强调形式和词义。

三、结论

本研究发现,所调查的高一学生作文中的词汇错误主要是语义错误,子类型中的搭配错误与字母误写较多。结果大体上与以往研究没有太大冲突,在一定程度上能够反映出高一学生词汇错误的普遍情况。本研究不足之处在于未具体考察学习者之间的内部差异。
