文化和语言两者之间息息相关、不可分离。以我国中小学开展英语教学为例, 英语教师在教授英语这门语言的同时, 应该向学生传送有着英语文化的知识, 使两者学习达到相辅相成的作用。新颁布的《初中英语课程标准》把培养学生的文化意识作为了课程目标之一, “将了解文化差异, 培养爱国主义精神, 增强世界意识”写进了新课程标准, 这无疑是要求教师在培养学生掌握语言知识的同时, 还要了解甚至熟悉英语国家的文化。因此, 我们必须先了解何为“文化”。文化即某一民族或群体区别于其他民族或群体而特有的习俗、世界观、语言、血统、社会组织、以及其它任何被认可的日常行为。每一个国家和民族在拥有其特有的语言系统的同时, 都存在着这些与语言紧密相关的风俗习惯、风土人情。学习文化知识有利于学生更好地更深层次地了解语言知识的背景;有利于学生提高对英语的兴趣;有利于学生用英语的思维来表达观点。随着相关研究的不断增多, 教师们已经开始关注文化教学的重要性, 但是一些问题依然存在:首先, 一直以来, 语法和词汇教学都处于英语教学的核心地位。只有在课时非常充裕, 或者在公开课时, 教师才会渗透文化知识;初中教师认为学生此时的任务是打好英语基础, 而文化则属于更深层次的内容, 属于高中阶段的任务。

但是我们应该知道文化知识的学习不是哪个年级或者哪个时间段特有的任务, 文化教学应该贯穿整个英语教学的始终。对于初中学生而言, 正因为所学知识的基础性, 简单性, 文化学习才更有必要性。只有他们正确的了解英语国家的文化, 了解他们的习惯和思维方式, 才能真正学好英语。作者通过一线的教学工作和对该年龄段学生的了解提出如下论点:即英语教学中的文化渗透应该从七年级开始。本文以新课标 (go for it!) 七年级上册教材为例来具体阐明七年级英语教学的文化渗透。

人教版新课标 (go for it!) 七年级上册共有3个预备单元和12个正式单元。每个单元均以一个话题贯穿始终。对于有些话题, 教师已经注意到教学过程的文化渗透, 如预备篇unit1 meeting friends, unit 1 making new friends, unit 3the family, unit 9 when is your birthday。但其它更多的话题, 教师未能意识到文化渗透的存在和文化教学的意义。因此, 本文就如下几个单元进行举例。

一、知识性文化

知识性文化, 主要是指有关语言知识方面的文化, 如英语俚语、英语习惯用语, 英语俗语等。这些知识性文化往往不能依靠字面意思来理解其真正的含义, 因为他们往往包含着一定的风俗和历史背景。但是这类知识往往会在以后的学习中影响学生对文章的理解和对地道英语地更准确的把握。

Unit 6 Do you like bananas?这一单元涉及到许多有关食物的单词。这一课题接近学生的学生, 很多食物学生在小学阶段已经接触过, 但未达到四会的水平。如果只是机械地重复这些单词, 课堂上不断地进行跟读、拼读这些操练会让学生感到枯燥、乏味, 同时, 也不利于学生对这些单词的识记。但是如果, 我们把一些简单的习惯搭配和词组与这些单词结合会收到意想不到的效果。

二、交际性文化

交际性文化往往指有关风俗习惯, 行为方式, 思维习惯等方面的知识。这些知识的缺乏会影响学生理解他们特有的行为举止, 也会影响学生融入英语国家。随着经济的发展和国际的交流, 越来越多的人选择出国留学。交际性文化的学习有利于学生更好地融入当地文化, 更好地学习生活, 更容易地与当地居民交流沟通。

Unit 9 Do you want to go to a movie?中提及了各种类型的电影, 如喜剧、动作篇、纪录片、惊悚片等。当今的学生们在生活中会接触到许许多多的电影包括很多外国篇, 他们对电影、电影明星有着自己的喜好。如果在保证课程进度的前提下, 向学生们介绍国外电影发展的情况, 以及欧洲电影奖, 美国奥斯卡奖的情况, 学生会得到更多的文化知识。在介绍各种影片时, 课本中的相关单词又得到了巩固, 使学生们在轻松的有乐趣的氛围中学习是教师应该尽力而为的责任。

学习初一英语的方法

一、量的积累——积累词汇
