二、翻译信度

在翻译活动过程中, 首先应该保证翻译的信度。翻译信度 (translation reliability) 指的是关于翻译结果一致性程度的量度。翻译信度研究有利于优化和配置翻译资源, 以便在保证可行性和经济性的前提下, 最大限度地提高翻译结果的精确程度。翻译评价的任务是对译者能力进行科学的、客观的、公正的鉴定。翻译测试信度的高低, 受“原文的质和量、翻译实施、评价方式三方面因素的牵制”。因此, 评估翻译信度的关键是看以上三方面的规范和管理情况。

(一) 原文的质和量

原文内容与所要求的译者能力不一定是一致的。目前国内商务翻译的内容多样, 大多局限在语句、语段和语篇等层面, 能够契合翻译能力的多要素本质。质高量大的原文比较普遍。越是商务专业化程度高的原文, 对译者在翻译过程中运用专业知识的能力要求就越高。

(二) 翻译实施

我们先可以采用一些无条件句子翻译来检测译者对相关翻译技巧的掌握, 或者用语篇中的单句或语段翻译评价译者在商务语境限制下的翻译能力。词组翻译一直是很多译者为之不屑的, 其实词组翻译可以为译者提供熟悉商务翻译的语境。翻译过程中, 很多难点是由于原文使用了商务习语或商务行话等表达法。因此, 译者可以在翻译实践中积累商务习语或行话等的翻译技巧, 从而利用翻译实践活动的反拨作用促进译者加强这方面的积累。

(三) 评价方式

可以采用如下的一些方法检测商务译文的信度, 即重复测试法 (test-retest method) 、平行卷测试法 (parallel form test) 、对半分析法 (split half test) (邹申, 2011) 。例如, 重复测试法 (testretest method) 是使用同一份翻译原文, 在译后较短时间内再译一次, 然后将两次译文进行对比, 找出其中的相关性。平行卷测试法 (parallel form test) 是采用一套与原文形式及内容相当的文章, 让同一译者在时间连续或间隙很短的情况下先后翻译两套原文, 然后分析两次译文的相关性。对半分析法 (split half test) 则只翻译一篇原文, 然后将译文分成前后两半, 分析前后两半译文的相关性。

三、译者商务专业语言知识

商务英语是英语的一种社会功能变体, 是专门用途英语中的一个分支, 是英语在商务场合中的应用。它涉及技术引进、对外贸易、招商引资、对外劳务输出、国际金融、涉外保险、海外投资、国际运输等方面 (曹海雄, 2015) 。这些知识可以体现在商务英语的用词、句法和文体等方面。

(一) 词汇特色

1. 正式性

正式性是商务英语词汇的一个基本特色, 在商务合同、协议和信函中使用较为普遍, 可以使商务文书显得庄重、严肃。例如, 用“constitute取代form, terminate取代end, locality取代place”。

2. 陈旧词语

许多陈旧词语在其他文体中已经不常用了, 但在商务英语中却使用得较为频繁。例如, 用hereinafter表达later in this contract, 用thereunder表达under that part of a contract。

3. 专业术语

四、译者商务专业语言知识对翻译信度的影响

(一) 翻译信度标准

翻译信度对任何一种翻译活动来说都是必不可少的。如何衡量翻译的信度, 从理论上来说, 就是要看对类似难度原文翻译结果的一致性。相同类型的原文, 无论进行多少次的翻译, 其译文的质量都会保持稳定。

(二) 译者商务语言知识对翻译信度的影响

1. 词汇层面

商务英语中的用词具有规范性, 在商务活动的方方面面都会涉及商务专业知识, 这些知识都会采用较为准确和专业的术语来表达 (张琼瑶, 2014) 。例如, Honor (承兑) , Factor (代理人) , Credit (贷款) 。

因此, 译者如果不能掌握商务英语的词汇特性, 就会直接影响商务英语翻译的信度。

2. 句法层面

商务英语要求表达意思清晰, 会大量地使用固定句式和长句, 并且在句子中比较频繁地使用被动语态。因此, 这一特点就要求译者要能够驾驭商务英语中的长难句。

3. 语用及文化层面

在商务交际中, 不同语言使用者在语言和文化层面存在较大的差异。因此, 译者在进行商务翻译的过程中, 一定会遇到因风俗习惯、法律法规和文化环境等方面的差异, 原文当中的许多表达法, 根本就无法在译入语中找到与之相匹配的表达法 (张学芳, 2014) 。如果译者在这方面的知识欠缺, 那么也会直接影响翻译的信度。

(三) 提高商务翻译信度的对策

1. 掌握专业术语

商务英语涉及的领域非常宽泛, 可能涉及许多相关的行业领域, 因此作为商务英语的译员, 不但要注意积累商务领域的固有专业词汇, 还要时时关注商务领域的新词语和新的表达法。

2. 掌握跨文化知识

由于文化环境的不同, 造成了不同国家之间的社会制度、文化和宗教信仰有很大的差异, 同样一种文化概念, 在另外一种文化中可能会有迥然不同的意思。为了实现商务翻译的准确性和提高商务翻译的信度, 译者应注意不同文化之间的差异性。

3. 掌握商务英语翻译技巧

商务英语虽然具有较强的专业性, 但是进行商务英语翻译时首先应当遵守基本的翻译原则, 同时应注意商务翻译的相关特性。首先, 多义词词义的界定以及相关专业词汇的意思表达。其次, 词性的转换以及词义的变更。商务翻译中经常存在名词、介词与动词之间的转译。再次, 商务英语中结构复杂的长句较多, 要求译者能够进行符合商务英语特征的句子结构划分。

随着国家“一带一路”战略的实施, 我国的国际商务活动会更加频繁, 为提升我国在国际商务活动中的竞争力, 减少商务活动中各方之间的摩擦, 我们有理由不断地提升商务翻译的质量。衡量商务英语翻译的质量有多种标准, 但是从翻译信度的视角来审视译文的质量, 也算是对商务英语翻译质量评价标准的一种有益补充。

一、 翻译之“信”

古往今来，从西方翻译界到我国翻译界，不同的学者从各自的角度出发对翻译是什么都做出过不同的阐释。苏联学者费道罗夫在《翻译理论概要》中说到：翻译是用一种语言把另一种语言在内容与形式不可分割的统一中业已表达出来了的东西准确而完全地表达出来。我国学者张培基在《英汉翻译教程》中也提到：翻译是运用一种语言把另一种语言所表达的思维内容准确而整体地重新表达出来的语言活动。从以上例举的翻译定义中，可以看出他们均强调翻译的结果是要准确地传达原文的思想，原文的思想应该尽可能得到保持，不应可有所增删。鲁迅先生说过：凡是翻译，必须兼顾两面，一则当然力求其易解，一则是保存着原作的丰姿。从实质上来讲，就是要使原文的内容、风格、在译文中得以再现。严复提出的 “信、达、雅”之说，把“信”放在首位也是基于此理。“信”是首要的，“达”与“雅”是必须建立在“信”的基础之上的，不能与之相违背。

二、“信、达、雅”之“信”的重要性

何谓“信、达、雅”？它是由我国清末教育家、翻译家严复提出的，他在《天演论》中的“译例言”将“信、达、雅”明确作为“译事楷模”详加阐述： “译事三难： 信，达，雅。求其信已大难矣，顾信矣不达，虽译犹不译也，则达尚焉。……至原文词理本深，难于共喻，则当前后引衬，以显其意。凡此经营，皆以为达，为达，即所以为信也。……信达而外，求其尔雅。”“信”指译文要准确，不遗漏歪曲，也不要随意增减原文所表达的意思；“达”指译文不拘泥于原文形式，通顺明白；“雅”则指译文时选用的词语要得体，追求文章本身的简明优雅。在中国的翻译界，自严复率先提出“信、达、雅”之后，又有林语堂的“忠实、通顺和美”、傅雷的“神似”、钱钟书的“化”等说法提出。说法虽多，又各据其理，然而就可操作性来看，少有如“信达雅”之可触可摸。

严复的“信、达、雅”中的“信”，从狭义上讲，就是要求译者忠实于原作的思想，要把原文所表达的意思准确地用另一种语言重新表达出来，而从广义上来看，“信、达、雅”实际上只留一个“信”字足矣，即“全方位的信”。原文若是表达得通顺流畅就达；原文若故意不达则不达，此时的不达就是达。原文用的文绉绉的书面语等，译文就要雅；原文若用的是粗话俗语，译文也要粗而不雅，此时的不雅就是雅。这才是“信”之精髓。

三、如何在翻译中达到真正的“信”

若要在翻译中达到真正的“信”，笔者认为最核心的是要忠于原文。忠于原文并不意味着要按照原文逐字逐句地翻译，在这方面就有三种情况需要注意：

第一，要注意习语的翻译，这种翻译是固定的，不能按词、句子本身的意思去译，例如中文的“此路不通”，我们不能逐字翻译成“This road doesn't go through”。尽管这种译文翻译出了原文本身的意思，但至少没有考虑到这在英语的语言环境中是一个路标，固定的译文应为“No Thorough fare.”或者“Not a Thorough street”。

第二，要避免一种生硬地将动词译成动词，形容词译成形容词等的趋势，应该灵活处理，也要注意由于不同的语言代表这不同类型的文化，不同的文化对某些词的翻译就不同，应该选择最恰当的词去匹配原文。

第三，要关注对原文中的拟声词、节拍、韵律的翻译效果，在忠实于原文方面，这是一个非常重要但却常常被忽视的因素，因此译者对原文中出现的拟声词、节拍、韵律加以重视。同时，在翻译一些谚语中也需要注意其本身的节奏及韵律。

第四，要认清语言的特定分类，每种语言都有自己语言的特定分类，例如在英语中名词有单复数、动词有时态的变化，而在中文里却没有这些语法现象；又如在英语中“cousin”意思可以表达“堂兄”、“堂妹”、“表姐”、“表弟”，并没有明确地说明，要根据上下文才知道人物的大小及性别，但在中文里“堂兄”、“堂妹”、“表姐”、“表弟”就明确区分开来。

第五，还应该特别注意对原文中出现的各类修辞手法的翻译，诸如比喻、拟人、讽刺等。这就要求译者注意一定要对词的扩展意思进行比较，这样才能做到忠实于原文。

最后，不同的文体所用的语言也不一样。政论性文章与科技文章不同，新闻报道和文学作品不同，书面材料和口头报告不同。这些不同在原文中就体现得十分明显，翻译时也要使用适合的文体，才不至于使譯文与原文格格不入。

四、结论及启示

“信、达、雅”中的“信”是核心，是重点，在翻译中占有重要的地位，所以译者必须做到忠实于原文，尽最大可能地保留原文的思想。若想在翻译中完整清晰地表现出“信”的境界，译者不仅需要具备坚实的语言功底，更要充分了解另一种语言背后所代表的不同的社会、文化等诸多因素，只有做到真正地、多方面地融会贯通，译者才能够带领读者领略原文之风采。
