一、问题与成因

1. 教材因素。

巢湖市采用的是人教版新目标英语, “采用任务型语言教学模式, 融汇话题, 交际功能, 语言结构为一体, 形成一套循序渐进的生活化学习程序。”教材内容突出交际性, 但对写作关注不够, 学生基本上靠对范文的模仿来写作。相比而言, 另一套很受欢迎的英语教材———《新概念英语》就有一套完整的写作训练体系, 从词语的运用, 到连句成段, 再到结段成篇, 循序渐进, 便于学生掌握。同时, 新目标英语教材淡化语法讲解, 也影响学生语言表达的准确性。

2. 教师因素。

一是部分教师对任务型教学理解不够, 执行不力, 肤浅地认为任务型教学就是“组织学生对话”, 能力培养没落到实处, 教学效率不高。二是教师对学生的写作指导不够。据一项调查发现, 每单元中都系统安排学生写作训练的教师为31%;对学生英语习作坚持每周批改的教师为40.7%, 且写作训练的方法大都是机械模仿。对英语写作评价的方式单一, 注重终结性评价, 缺少互动, 学生很难从评价中获得启发, 不利于激发学生写作兴趣和提高写作能力。

3. 学生因素。

写作能力低下是当前中学生学英语现状的一个缩影。据一项调查表明, 中国学生在小学3年级时对英语感兴趣的达90%, 到初中毕业变成了25%, 到高中变成了5%, 也就是说大部分学生对英语失去了兴趣。加之中国是一个非英语国家, 学生在日常生活中使用英语机会少之又少。没有了兴趣, 没有了运用, 学英语谈何容易。写作又是英语学习中的难点, 许多学生日常阅读量有限, 词汇贫乏, 又缺少有效的写作技巧, 导致很多学生从最初的不会写, 盲目写, 发展到不愿写、害怕写, 最后到拒绝写。

4. 考试因素。

与母语写作不同, 外语写作受词汇量的影响极大。现在的考试作文大多提供写作提纲, 如果学生的词汇储备中没有涵盖写作的内容, 就可能无从下手。比如2009年的安徽中考英语作文, 写“清凉油的用途”。教材中没有类似的文章, 学生对一些词汇的用法也比较生疏, 许多学生拿到题目就失去了信心。

二、对策

1. 加强写作指导。

(1) 注重写前指导, 在内容和形式两方面做充分的准备。 (1) 关于内容方面, 学者王立非指出, 我国英语写作教学的突出问题是学生写作的内容匮乏。这就要求教师在设计写作任务时, 要关注那些与现实生活紧密相关的话题, 这样能激发学生写作冲动, 使学生愿写, 能写;其次, 写作的内容要基于教材, 做到“所写即所学”。如果写作的内容与所学的知识相甚远, 会极大地挫伤学生的写作积极性。最后, 提供相关的阅读材料或有助于表达思想的外语词汇和短语, 减低写作的难度;同时鼓励学生自己收集材料, 借鉴某些有用的单词短语和句型。 (2) 关于语言形式。新课改以来, 英语教学界一直强调要让学生把注意力集中在表达意义上, 而不是操练语言形式。但通过对中国学生英语习作的分析发现, 二语写作的最大困难是缺少表达思想的语言形式。所以专家也指出, 任务型教学是引导学习者在达到交际目的的基础上把注意力放在语言形式上, 实现教学的中心目标———改善目标语的运用能力, 而不仅仅是完成任务。任务型教学的倡导者Nunan也强调, 在完成任务的过程中, 学习者也可以关注语言形式。

(2) 抓好写中指导。写中指导的关键是帮助学生在写作中对内容和语言的选择做出正确的决定。学生在写作中常遇到这样一些困难, 比如词汇问题、语法问题、格式问题、表达习惯问题等。这些困难虽然可以通过不断的学习去克服, 但是会给学生的写作形成极大地障碍, 尤其是初学写作的学生, 他们甚至会主动放弃写作。这时, 及时帮助可使学生避免一些常见的错误, 了解学生的思维过程, 顾及其情感体验, 提高其写作的主动性。根据因材施教的原则, 对有不同困难的同学给予不同的帮助, 比如有的同学写作上不下功夫, 不善钻研, 就要磨炼他们的意志;对英语基本功差的同学则要加强他们对写作的认识, 从语言基本功训练入手, 培养其写作兴趣和自信心。

2. 阅读写作整体教学, 促进读写迁移。

阅读是语言输入的过程, 写作是语言输出的过程, 两者相互独立, 又相互依赖、相辅相成。教学中应大力推进阅读写作整体教学, 使阅读能力与写作能力相互促进, 共同提高。

(1) 以写作为英语教学的突破口。写作不仅是语言输出的过程, 也有助于学习者检验目的语的句法结构和词语的使用, 促进语言运用的自动化, 有效达到语言习得的目的。中国学生学英语缺少听说机会, 但是有充分的读写的条件, 以“写”为突破口, 易于克服学生的心理障碍, 符合中国的国情, 有利于提高学生学习英语的效率。通过写作, 英语知识得到不断地巩固并内化, 只要辅以必要的发音训练, 就可以全面提高学生的英语技能。王初明教授倡导的“写长法”, 就在实践中证明了以写为突破口, 能有效带动听说读等语言综合运用能力的提高。

(2) 重视范文教学。“范文教学有助于培养中国学生对中西方思想和思想表达方式方面存在的文化差异的敏感性, 促使他们在潜移默化中学会英语写作中结构、修辞、句子变化、选词等方面的技巧。”教师要在写作教学过程中, 引导学生对不同类型的范文从遣词造句、谋篇布局等方面进行分析、体会, 学习词汇运用, 借鉴写作技巧, 比较英汉写作与思维模式的异同, 同时对学生进行多种形式的写作技能训练。例如, 运用课文中所学的重点单词或词组造句, 听写有关课文的句子或短语, 背诵课文中的典型句型, 动笔做课后的模仿性练习等。日积月累, 许多习惯用语或常见句型等便能在写作时自然地表达出来。在新目标英语中, 每单元section B部分, 都安排了写作练习。它常以范文为基础, 以模仿训练来巩固, 再到自主作文。这种以文本为模式的写作教学可使写作活动更富有意义, 有助于激发学生的动机。

(3) 以读促写。古人说, “熟读唐诗三百首, 不会吟诗也会吟。”外语学习也是这个道理, 充足的阅读是英语写作的保证。英语课程标准提出, 中学生到九年级结束, 除教材外, 课外阅读量应累计达到15万词以上。事实上, 很多学生没有达到这个标准, 这也是中学生写作能力低下的一个重要原因。日常教学中, 教师要鼓励学生多读英文书。一开始, 学生词汇量不足, 可以引导学生读与教材相关的补充阅读材料或浅显的英文报刊杂志;随着学生词汇量的增加, 可以鼓励学生读英文原版书。现在网络资源十分丰富, 也可以鼓励学生浏览英文网站, 获取第一手鲜活的材料。大量的阅读可以锻炼学生搜集信息和自主学习的能力, 拓展知识面, 增加词汇量, 同时积累更多的写作素材。

3. 采取积极的评价方式。

(1) 鼓励为主。中学生刚接触英文写作会遇到各种各样的困难, 只有积极的鼓励才能激发学生写作的信心。开始阶段可以鼓励学生大胆的模仿。敢于动笔十分重要, 有的学生到后来不愿写作文, 与一开始不敢动笔有直接的关系。随着学生写作能力的提高, 可以鼓励学生在作文的内容和形式上有所突破和创新。对于作文中出现的恰当句型以及新颖生动的内容和巧妙的构思, 可以抄写在黑板或投影在屏幕上重点评析。对于写作中的典型错误可以在课堂上稍做讲解纠正。总之, 要让学生感觉写作并不可怕, 只要努力就一定可以写出像样的文章来。同时, 也使他们发现不足, 明确努力的方向。

(2) 评价主体多元化。常见的评价方式是教师改正学生作文中的错误, 然后下评语。这样既费时、费力, 又容易让学生养成惰性, 助长依赖心理, 而且被动输入不如主动领悟受益多, 效果好。所以, 应提倡教师评而不改, 评价过程中教师只指出学生作文中影响文章意思表达且以学生现有水平无法发现的错误之处, 对不影响文章表意的语言错误, 或同样性质的问题只作个记号, 让学生自己动手纠正。这样做可以培养学生修改作文的习惯。其次, 鼓励学生互评互改。中国人常说“他山之石可以攻玉”, 在评改同学作文时, 可以发现别人的问题、纠正自身存在的错误, 提高自身的写作评价能力。经常组织“互评互改”活动还可以提高学生的写作水平, 让学生体会到与他人合作的乐趣。

(3) 有选择地面批作文。教师在面批作文时可以最直接地了解学生写作的意图, 发现存在的问题。学生也可以清楚的了解老师的评价目的, 这比单纯的几句评语效果好得多。但是当前中学老师教学负担重, 大面积的面批是不现实的, 教师可以在尽可能的情况下有选择地找一些同学面批作文。

(4) 创造条件展示作文。作文不仅是考场的需要, 更是表达思想、展示个性的需要。当学生不再为了作文而作文时, 写作才会成为一种乐趣。日常教学中鼓励学生多用英语写作, 比如写英文日记, 用英文给朋友写信, 交国外的笔友;同时创造条件展示学生的作品, 如挑选佳作在班上诵读, 点评, 或在橱窗、墙报上展示, 推荐给报刊杂志发表等。当写作发挥了它自身的价值, 会极大提高学生写作的积极性和主动性。

三、注意的问题

1. 依托教材原则。

由于受词汇和语言表达形式的限制, 写作教学应该紧扣教材内容。写作的内容是课文内容的延伸, 让学生在听、说、读的基础上, 进一步发展写作能力。

2. 真实性原则。

这是任务型教学的原则, 也是写作教学的原则。写作的内容要源自现实生活、贴近现实生活。

3. 趣味性原则。

根据学生的个性特点、爱好、兴趣来设计写作活动, 激发学生的学习动机和参与热情。

4. 渐进性原则。

写作任务的设计要循序渐进, 由简到繁, 由易到难, 前后相连, 层层深入, 成阶梯状分布, 使写作教学层层递进。

5. 及时反馈的原则。

及时反馈学生的写作成果, 尽量采取积极的评价方式, 使学生体验成功, 增强自信心。

四、总结

中学生英语书面表达能力差是一个普遍存在的问题, 也是英语新课程改革中必须面对的问题。提高中学生的英语写作能力, 需要学与教两个方面共同努力。中学生要提高英语学习的兴趣, 扩大阅读量, 善于学习借鉴各种外语写作的技巧, 多与同学交流取长补短。教师要适应新课程的要求, 将培养学生的综合语言运用能力落到实处, 重视写作过程指导, 加强阅读整合教学, 采取积极的评价方式让学生会写、乐写、善写!

一、提炼字词句

一篇作文是由单词和句子组成的。这是写作最基本的要素，就像万丈高楼需要一砖一瓦层层盖起来一样，如果砖瓦质量不好，那么这座高楼很快就会垮掉。同样的，如果基本的词句掌握不好，那么我们在写文章的时候就会感觉提笔无从下手，甚至连一个句子都很难写出。这就是因为头脑中没有“存货”造成的。因此，从现在开始，我们应该重视字词句的提炼，把我们学过的，见到过的甚至在新闻、广播、杂志、电影里见到的优美的、地道的词句提炼出来为我所用。一般来说，我们掌握了初中教材要求的大部分词汇以及考纲中全部词汇和词组，写出一篇合格的作文并不是难事，然而，面对如此激烈的竞争，仅仅是一篇合格的文章就够了吗？恐怕不是的。因此，掌握更多的优秀词句能让我们在写作中出彩。我们可以从作文素材中进行词句的提炼：

第一个资源，也是我们最容易忽视的资源，就是我们手中的教材。

教材文章难度适中，词汇丰富，是非常好的词库。也许有的同学不以为然，那么我们看这个句子：A比B要美得多。如果让你用英语写出这个句子，你能想到的句型有几个？在你想到的句型中，是不是转来转去就那么几句：A is more beautiful than B， 或者A is more beautiful when compared with B ， 或者B is not as beautiful as A……这样的句型你会写，还有数万个和你一样的中学生也会写，但是如果你写出：Although A is beautiful， it pales when it is in comparison with B. (虽然A很美，但是与B相比便黯然失色了。) 这样的句子，效果会大不相同。

第二个资源，基于教材，我们可以向外发散，任何你读过的报英文刊杂志，比如《21st Century》《China Daily》等等，都是很好的资源，还有很多经典的英文电影，英文歌曲也都是丰富的词库，从中可以提炼出非常多的优美的词汇和句子，改造一下，就可以放到我们的文章中，为我们的作文增色不少。

第二、巧用过渡词

所谓过渡词，就是表示先后顺序的first， second，….at last，表示因果关系的as a result， due to， because of…，表示分述关系的what’s more， furthermore， besides， in addition等等。为什么要使用这样的词汇？原因有二：其一，我们每个人写的文章虽然内容几乎千篇一律，但是每个人的写作风格和逻辑思路不尽相同。怎样在短时间内让阅卷老师进入自己的逻辑体系，快速而精准的判断你的文章呢？过渡词就是一个很好的“向导”，它能够引导阅卷人的思路，让其短时间内对你的文章做出公允的评价；其二，我们列好提纲准备下笔的时候，总有一个先后顺序，总有一个逻辑结构，如何使自己的文章结构清晰，要点明确，中心突出，答案还是过渡词，使用了过渡词，可以规范自己的逻辑思路，让我们在有压力的写作之下能够做到临危不乱，有条不紊，层次清晰，逻辑通畅。

第三、句式多变

如果一百份试卷里都是清一色的“I think”简单句，那阅卷人读起来将会多么的乏味，乏味至极的阅卷人又如何能给得出高分？所以，我们在写句子的时候，要尽可能的变换句式和结构，让文章富于变化，错落有致。具体地说：中考作文中，我们可以尝试使用更多的复合句，主要是宾语从句、状语从句以及尝试变化语态。
