1. 真实情境。

要让孩子外语学得好，真实的语言情境很重要，同时需要有大量的正确语言输入。首先，语言是用于信息交流的。父母和孩子的语言交流都是在真实的生活情境中发生的，这是一种自然而有意义的语言运用过程。幼儿在家跟父母学英语与中小学生在学校学英语是不同的，前者类似孩子的母语“习得”，而不是像后者那样将英语作为一门课程来“学习”。“现代语言习得理论认为，幼儿习得语言是一个理解周围人们言语并对其进行加工和模仿，进而能用以表达意义的过程。他们使用先天的语言处理机制，通过对输入语言的处理，归纳出语言的普遍特征和个别特点”。 (1) 尽管现在的幼儿课堂英语教学环境在竭力模拟生活情境，但毕竟存在差别;与家庭环境相比，课堂中的语言环境相对“规范”，“模拟”情境中也多有“预设”的成分，缺少偶然性，不利于孩子调动积极性“临场发挥”。语言的主动使用，对于英语学习来说是是否掌握的重要标志之一。

另一方面，课堂英语教学虽然能保证英语使用较高的正确性，但由于小孩子不可能长时间专心听课，接受正规的课堂教学，因而语言输入量无法保证。在幼儿学习英语的过程中，大量的重复、模仿必不可少，有限的课堂时间很难保证充分的练习。而高频率的重复所需的耐心、爱心，正是家长所富有的，家长需要注意的就是用语的标准和及时施教。

2. 有效模仿。

模仿是儿童学习语言的主要途径，难易适中的语言刺激是引起有效模仿的必要条件。据了解，“在11—14个月期间，儿童获得的词87.5%来自成人言语教授，其余的12.5%来自儿童与人们(成人和其他儿童)的言语交际。儿童早期语言获得是与成人的言语教授、言语交际和随之而产生的儿童的模仿学习分不开的”。 (2) 在教孩子说话的过程中，成人总是力求与儿童的认知和心理水平相适应，把教授词语的范围集中于儿童经常接触的人、物的表称名词，以及与日常生活密切相关的动词或动词短语。但即便如此，仍有一些示范词没能引起模仿，或虽引起模仿却没有被儿童获得，儿童不能独立复述。这是因为幼儿的语言认知水平发展存在个别差异。在言语发展初期，幼儿尚不具备自省能力，更大程度上是要依靠成人去发现问题，及时调整教授内容的难易程度。而在幼儿英语课堂教学中，教师一般采取班级孩子的平均水平作为教学参照，很难照顾到每个孩子的需求，及时纠正个别错误，模仿的准确性难以保证。

随着模仿学习的进行，儿童本身在语言学习中的主动性开始显现出来。儿童有一种试图归纳并创造性地使用语言的倾向，正确引导这一倾向是达到有意义模仿，进而达到学习目的的重要保证。如14个月大的幼儿在学会说“good boy”(好孩子)、“good mommy”(好妈妈)以后，自己会主动说出“good daddy”(好爸爸)。 (3) 家长若能及时地用微笑、亲吻等方式予以肯定，孩子的积极性便会得到鼓励，日后也会乐于尝试使用语言。和课堂教学中老师一对多的模式相比，家长在家教小孩子英语，更容易辨别孩子的创造性应用，给予的肯定也更及时、充分。

由此可见，儿童在语言模仿学习和获得过程中的正确性和有效性在家庭英语教学中都可以得到保证。因此，只要掌握了一定的教学方法，加上家庭环境本身具有的相对优势，家长是可以胜任孩子英语启蒙老师这一角色的。

二、幼儿在家学习英语的阶段

儿童在家跟父母学习第二语言的过程大致可以分为以下四个阶段。 (4)

1. 词语学习。

词语是有意义语言的最小单位。家庭英语教学也是从词开始。在与孩子最初的交流中，家长可以随时随地借助实物、动作、表情等来帮助孩子建立语音与语义之间的联系，让孩子形成对语言的“情景”式记忆，而不是单一的语音记忆。在孩子玩玩具、做游戏的同时家长不断重复玩具、动作等的中英文名称，达到一定次数后，在孩子记忆中，实物与中文、英文之间就建立起了稳固的联系。但一般不会马上开口说。比如在一段时间内，妈妈会经常指着自己说“Mom(妈妈)”或拿着苹果对孩子说“Apple(苹果)”。之后，当孩子听到“Where is Mom?(妈妈在哪里?)”或“Where’s the apple?(苹果在哪里?)”这样的问题时，便会用手或眼神示意问句中提到的物品。家长在教单词的时候要注意让孩子清晰地看到发音时的嘴型，这样有利于孩子尝试模仿。孩子的第一次成功模仿往往是在不经意间完成的，家长要留心发现，及时肯定并马上多次重复该词，以达到巩固的效果。

3. 短句使用。

在家庭生活中，短句的使用是最为常见的交流单位。掌握一些基本词语后，孩子开始留意模仿家长说的一些短句，并逐步尝试根据情境使用这些短句，家长会不时地收到“惊喜”。例如，有一位母亲把做好的晚饭摆上餐桌，她一岁大的儿子会拍着手说：“Good job, mom.(妈妈做得好。)”这可能是白天母亲在看到孩子成功地把几块积木摆成直线时说了“Good job, boy.”。

1. 因材施教，循序渐进。

对于家长来说，每个孩子都是独一无二的小天使，在父母眼中孩子都是几近完美的。但这也是造成家长不能客观评价孩子的原因。正确地评价孩子认知、性格特点对于开展家庭英语教学来说是很重要的前提保证。比如，对于好动的孩子，在游戏中学习可能就比读书讲故事的方式效果要好得多。了解孩子的特点是开展教学的第一步。
