1.信仰是精神的支柱和动力

古代楚国有个卞和,在山中发现了一块璞玉,于是将那块璞玉献给楚厉王,厉王让玉匠鉴别,而玉匠说那是石头,结果厉王把卞和当作骗子而砍去了左脚。然而卞和对那块璞玉依然深信不疑,后来再次把它献给武玉,结果与上次一样又被砍去了右脚。武王死后,文王即位,卞和抱着那块璞玉在楚山下哭,一连哭了三天三夜,眼泪流尽继而流血,卞和痴心不改,最后那块璞玉终于通过玉匠的鉴定,证明是块罕见的宝玉。这就是历代传颂的“和氏璧”。

“和氏璧”的故事告诉我们这样一个真理,那就是:信仰是人们的精神支柱和动力。

人有了坚定的信仰,才能为实现自己的理想而进行不屈不挠的斗争。正是这种对真理的坚信不移,卞和才有着如此坚定的决心,才不惜舍去自己的双脚,要让美玉展现它的光彩,要让真理得到公认。

2.有效率的乐观主义

古时候有这样一个笑话:一人从集市上买回一罐油,由于急着赶路,不幸罐索朽腐,油罐坠地摔碎,他头也不回地继续前行。路人提醒他:“你看你的油罐碎了。”他回答说:“已经碎了,看有什么用,只能耽误走路。”我想,这大概就是人们常常想到、常常念着的“乐观主义”了。

可见,乐观主义能帮人战胜许多愁虑、困难、穷苦、失望。

人生总会碰到恶魔的。一个人的目的愈远,计划愈大,他的工作所经过的途径也愈远;在前进的时候,有许多愁虑、困难、穷苦、失望,都是当然要碰到的恶魔。乐观主义的人,就像这个扛油罐的人一样,是不怕这些恶魔的摧沮的,反而会振起精神,抱着希望,向前干去!因为他们知道 ,倘被恶魔所屈服,便灭亡了;只有抱着乐观主义的态度,才能战胜恶魔,取得胜利!

凡是要做得好的事情,都不是随随便便就行的,都不是容易的。你自己要立于什么地位?要达到什么地步?情愿付什么代价?你所希望的地位或地步总在那里,不过必须先付足了代价的人,才能“如愿以偿”。沿着大成功的一条路上,有许多小失败排列着,最后的成功是在能用坚毅的精神,伶俐的眼光,从这许多小失败里面寻出教训,尽量地利用它,向前猛进。而这种"寻出"和"尽量地利用",惟有抱乐观主义的人才能够办到。

有许多人,对乐观主义有一种误解,以为乐观主义的人不过是“喜皮笑脸”“随随便便”“一切放任”“撤撤烂污”“得过且过”“唯唯诺诺”。请君切莫误信这种谬说。真正的乐观主义的人是用积极的精神向前奋斗的人,是战胜愁虑穷苦的人。这类的苦境,常人遇着,要"心胆俱碎""一蹶而不能复振"的;只有真正乐观主义的人才能努力奋斗,才敢努力奋斗!所以讲到乐观主义还不够,要有“有效率的乐观主义”才行。

古今中外,因了有极强烈而有效的乐观主义,战胜各种艰难险阻取得胜利的大有人在。牛顿发明地心吸力学说的时候,全世界人反对他;哈费(Harvey)发明血液循环学说的时候,全世界人反对他;达尔文宣布进化论的时候,全世人反对他;贝尔(Bell)第一次造电话的时候,全世界人讥笑他;莱特(Wright)初用苦工于制造飞机的时候,全世界人讥笑他。讲到孙中山先生,最初在南洋演讲革命救国的时候,有一次听的人只有三个。这许多人都因抱着乐观主义的精神,而为世人所称道。
