Pride and prejudice(英文名著读书感)

Pride and prejudice

<>is considered as one of the classics of English literature, which is set in the eighteenth to nineteenth century’s English countryside which the great writer Jane Austen is familiar with. Because it has reversed the rhetoric writing style and deeply influenced the inclination of the late writing and the standards of appreciation. Based on the famous book, it is shot not only for recreation, but also to show the respect to the great writer and be honest to the masterpiece.

The film mainly concentrates on the tortuous love between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Benet. Of course it also reveals the social life in the early eighteenth century in Britain. It also paid attention to convey the writer’s belief that a man in good fortune must be in want of a women and the highest value is love.

The Benet family has five daughters, Jane, Elizabeth, Lydia, kitty, Mary. Jane is the eldest and the most beautiful according to the review around, tending to be quiet and self-strained, reflecting the most appreciated kind of women valued in tradition. Elizabeth is in fact high-spirited, outgoing and is well raised. Lydia and Kitty are some kind not as mature as her two elder sisters, and Lydia run away with Mr. Wickham, the wrecked person as the father Mr. Benet has called, which has in fact brought shame on her family. Mary is quite self-conscious and has her unique taste. They are all raise with no governess and in fact their mother has not bothered so much to educate or to bring them up. All the basic merits of Elizabeth and Jane maybe self-attained.

The basic tune of the movie is sorrow, which can not be suppressed. Love is about happiness but sometimes is more about sadness. But the ending is happy; Mr. Bingly proposed Jane and Jane accepted. Mr. Darcy got Elizabeth forgive his prejudice for her family and Elizabeth finally realized how much Mr. Darcy loves her and in verse how much she loves Mr. Darcy. Mr. Darcy is handsome, tender, dignified. But he is also very tacit, not so willing to speak to strangers, and when he came to Elizabeth’s town, he hadn’t danced with any lady even there are women had no companions at all. He is from the higher status and was in fact too proud of himself. He has his own social rules and a series of standards to judge what is appropriate and what is not which is self-concerned and inappropriate itself. Ms Benet and Elizabeth’s three young sisters’ even her beloved father’s behavior has rebelled against his appreciation. He has no opinion of her family and to save his best friend from getting into the imprudent marriage with such a bad family he even suggested Mr. Bingly leave Jane. It has triggered Elizabeth, and separated the doomed couple. On this, the two of them had a serious argue. All it happened just because Darcy has not got used to the temporal social life which is not so trimmed, he is in fact very friendly and amiable. Finally he has to a lot of things to remedy for what he has done.

Besides the love story we can also see the social life at that time. We can see some old fashioned houses which were carefully picked out. We can also know how the culture is in Britain in the early nineteenth century. For example, only men are qualified to inherit the estate.

It is in fact a meaningful movie and worth watching. It is very educational. It is different and will help us better know the literature.

But what is the default of the movie. I think the movie is too literature like and formal and lack of innovation. And what’s more, it deals with no body contact, which has eliminated the value of the film. Love is not only spiritual, it is not more or at least the to same extent physical, which completes a true love.

I am here formally recommending his movie to you. Don’t be so serious with the sarcasm which I

have just referred to. Thanks for reading.

第四篇:Pride and Prejudice傲慢与偏见英文观后感

Pride and Prejudice

After reading <>, I really have lots to complain about. I truly don’t like the people in this novel. But why? I don’t know. Maybe I just don’t understand the realistic society and life and people’s ideas at that time in England, or maybe I am just such a person that always has a prejudice against everybody.

The main roles I want to talk about in this novel, of course, are Darcy and Elizabeth.

First, I want to say something about Elizabeth. After hearing Darcy’s bad comment on her, she said the words “I will never dance with him” so easily and so unwisely. Here we can know she is arrogant and she can’t stand Darcy’s contempt. But we also can see that she said the words too easily and too absolutely without thinking. What a fool! Who can predict what’s going to happen next moment? None! Long after this matter, we all know that she did dance with Darcy. At that time she may already forget the words that she had said before. But I will never forget her arbitrariness

That Elizabeth believed Wickham’s words makes me more dislike her. It’s a common sense that one couldn’t be a real good guy, if he can say hurtful things about someone else naturally and directly. But Elizabeth believed. Now that she hated Darcy or you can say she had a prejudice toward Darcy from the very start, she can totally ignore him. However

she cared about it very much. Maybe she started to love Darcy the minute she began to have a prejudice towards him. But who knows, and even she herself did not know.

Another scene that Darcy showed his love to Elizabeth makes me totally dislike her, especially the words she said that “you are the last man in the world I could ever marry”. She said such irresponsible and hurtful things without any consideration. Actually, she misunderstood everything. I just want to say she is a sad and hateful person.

What’s worse, she’s also a gutless person. Finally, she knew Wickham cheated her and Darcy was innocent and Darcy was a perfect gentleman. She found that she had already fallen in love with Darcy deeply. However, she did nothing but wept and regretted. She even didn’t have the courage to express her love to Darcy. As a modern girl, if I was her, I would fly to Darcy to admit my misunderstanding and express my true feelings to him in no time. Happiness is gained by one’s own efforts. If you don’t pursue the happiness, it’s almost impossible to enjoy it. Now what could I say about Elizabeth? I don’t think she would have a happy ending if there is no Darcy.

Next, let me talk about Darcy. In the beginning, I like this gentleman. I admire him. When he said that “she is tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me, and I am in no humor at present to give consequence to young ladies who are slighted by other men”, I admire him very much.

He was an arrogant man. And also he had the enough capital to be arrogant. Yes, he was handsome and wealthy. And then some time later, he asked Elizabeth to marry him, for he fell in love with her. Unfortunately, he was severely rejected by Elizabeth at once, but I still like him. He was a lovely man, right? At least, I think so. However, at the very last he showed his love to Elizabeth once again, regardless of the hurtful words that Elizabeth said before. It makes me disappointment. Where’s his pride? I love his pride all the time, but now it disappeared. If I was Darcy, after hearing Elizabeth’s hurtful word, I would never meet her again and I would even forget her name at once. And eventually he was a poor man that had lost his pride.

These are all my opinions about Elizabeth and Darcy. By the way, I really can’t understand why the girls were so crazy about officers and how come Darcy’s love to Elizabeth developed so suddenly. <> is a classic novel that reflect the social reality, so no one in this novel is perfect. The perfect person does not exist in the world. And it gives me the opportunity to nit-pick. As a whole, they were all kind people in the real society.

第五篇:Pride and Prejuice 傲慢与偏见 读后感 英文

Romance Reality and Reason ——The four marriagesin《Pride and Prejudice》

Before I read the book《Pride and Prejudice》, I watched the movie adapted by this book first, and every adaptation is another story. For no one can bring the whole original story to the readers by another way. And after I watched the movie, I was shocked by the girls marriage-holic. They were eager to marry someone and enjoy the romance. While the book gives me another view at the five girls and through their attitudes to marriage, I learned that an ideal marriage need more than romance and passion. It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife. The sentence in 《Pride and Prejudice》reveals the most important concept of Jane Austen’s time: marriage. For the majority of the population, marriage was the goal and the center of everything. It was the reason girls were taught their social skills and mannerisms. Marriage was used as a tool in unite powerful families. It was used as a bargaining tool by fathers in matters of business. Until a female was married, her life’s goal was to get married. Afterwards, if she had daughters, it was her job to teach her daughter the same process to follow. In the midst of all the uses, love was rarely mentioned——at least not in its literal form. Unlike today’s said notion of only marring for love, it was rare in practice in Jane Austen’s time. In the book, Jane Austen used love as a main factor in Elizabeth’s marriage, while at the same time she presented several other views about other characters’ marriage. The combination based on love and similar interests results in a happy marriage. The author told us four different marriages to show the readers that different people have different attitudes towards on marriage. And also expressed her own viewpoints on marriage that a combination based on love and similar interests is a happy and perfect marriage. In her opinion, the money-oriented marriage and sex-oriented marriage are not successful although the people can live together.

At first, Mrs. Bennet is prattling on about the new, wealthy bachelor that has moved nearby, and she is literally begging Mr. Bennet to visit him, showing how much it means to her to have her daughters married to a wealthy man. At this time she knows absolutely nothing about him except his social station in life-and that is good enough to satisfy her. Her exasperated and overzealous behavior over Mr. Bennet’s refusing to visit the newcomer reveal just how silly she is over the entire matter of marriage. Mrs. Bennet dedicates the majority of her time trying place her daughters in what she thinks are“good matches”. The readers see just how important marriage is to her when she says to her husband,“if I can but see one of my daughters happily settled at Netherfield, and all others equally married. I shall have nothing to wish for.”She excellently sums up her life. Elizabeth, despite her mother’s reasons and views of marriage, desires to marry for love. In fact, she states that she will marry for no other reason than love. Therefore, when Darcy first proposes to her, she adamantly refuses. She by no means feels any love for him. In addition, during his proposal, instead of focusing on love and her attributes, he seems to make it a point of expressing how much he did not want to propose by saying to her about his proposal.“In vain Istruggled, my feelings will not be repressed.”The author goes on to describe how Darcy elaborates in his proposal on“his sense of her inferiority of its being a degradation(to marry her)···”Elizabeth simply refused him and thought Darcy was too full of pride. And when he says in his second proposal,“my affections and wishes are unchanged, but one word from you will silence me on this subject foe ever.”He reveals that he knows he was wrong, and knows that she may still refuse him. At this point, Elizabeth’s feeling for Darcy has changed because of his letter of explanations, his courtesy towards her aunt and uncle, and his salvation of her sister’s reputation. She loves him, therefore she accepts his proposal. Among all the marriages in this novel, the combination of pleasant Bingley and mild Jane is the most blessed and happy one. The couple has similar interests and they insisted on pursuing their true love, which lead them to a happy and perfect marriage. It is true that for the young ladies, besides their family, marriage was the only respectable way for them to survive economically. The older the females got, the more pressure they felt to marry. Elizabeth’s best friend, Charlotte Lucas, is older than the average girls. Elizabeth greatly likes and admires her friend until she sees deeper into her character. Elizabeth is abashed that Charlotte would marry such a pathetic, social climbing man as Mr. Collins so that she can have economic and social security. Unlike Elizabeth, Charlotte views marriage as many of today would view a job:“will it provide economically for me?” along with that and Collins’s social acceptability, Charlotte is content to marry him. She may fancy love in the way Elizabeth does, but she does not view it was something necessary to a marriage. One cannot blame Charlotte for her actions; it was simply the way many young ladies were taught to believe. The younger sister Lydia’s marriage with Wickham is some kind of laughy. Their marriage is based on appearance and flesh and blood, Wickham is a liar, and Lydia seems to be silly and without reason. Their marriage is not so described as those three, even the details about their love. Their marriage is doomed to be unhappy for the two don’t share same value or same interests. They just married for passion. Charlotte Lucas, who basically married for money, turns out to be content with her life with Wickham. Jane and Elizabeth, who marry for love, end up happy. The author uses theses outcomes to say that love should be the reason for marriage- not money. She seems to imply that people must look deeper than status (Darcy),money(Charlotte),appearance (Lydia) and first impressions(Elizabeth)to find love. Even though she lived in a time when many motives and mannerisms were based on such things as class and reputation, Austen seems to use pp a means of protest against the norms of the time. In closer inspection, love may be an excellent literal lesson, as well as a small application used to represent every situation of life. The theme is narrow, but she showed us a beautiful tableau of the England people’s life of her own time. It seems that she had a talent to describe the ordinary life of people. Most parts of the story are the intricacies of courtships and marriages between the members of her class, which are great attraction to many readers.
