这种现象的产生,一方面,是因为学生的思维能力在过往各种课程学习中没有得到应有的训练与开发。另一方面,学生在成长过程中生活经历不够丰富,被动接受信息过多,主动思考与分析的锻炼不多。长此以往,许多学生“懒得动脑”,在解决问题的时候,思路狭窄,不会多点观察和多角度思考,点面不能结合,更不能全面透彻地分析问题,从而导致思维狭隘而浮浅。

为此,学生应该积极参加校园内外的各种活动,以获得不同的经历和经验,丰富知识,开阔视野,甚至可以参加符合高职学生特点的思维训练与开发课程, 从整体上提高自身的思维品质。

许多年来,英语写作就开始了,但学生的写作能力仍然很低。难以真正达到书面交际的目的。因此,如何帮助学生克服英语写作困难,已成为当前理论界、教学界探讨的问题。不少学者已撰文探讨,但诸多研究集中于英、汉两种语言差异的对比以及写作输出各环节上,而对英语写作中的输入研究不够。本文针对这一现状,试图从探讨背诵输入对排除母语干扰、克服英语写作中所起的重要作用,强调背诵输入在当前英语写作教学中应有的地位。

一、背诵输入的实质及其理论基础

究其实质,背诵输入是可理解输入(comprehen—sible input)。由于背诵的语言材料均由教师精心挑选于学生所学的课文,这种输入自然是学生能够理解的,它有利于写作输出的产生,因为“复用能力(说、写)是在理解输入的基础上产生的”

背诵输入以Krashen(1982)的第二语言习得理论为基础。最佳语言输入包括四个必要条件:①可理解的②不以语法为纲的③密切相关的④大量的。其中,可理解输人是语言习得中不可或缺的环境因素,是语言习得的至关重要条件,通过背诵输入,不但可以更多地接触目标语,加深理解和积累语言知识,而且能学会用地道的英语表达自己的思想,摆脱母语的负面影响,最终提高写作交际能力。鉴于我国学生是在脱离目的语语境的非自然环境中学习英语,背诵输入有着特殊的意义,它不失为一种最佳语言输入。

二、背诵输入的意义

1.背诵可强化语言输入

有关研究表明,我国学生英语写作中普遍存在的母语负迁移的现象,主要在于语言输入不足,他们脑中所储备的语言信息极为有限。常用词汇、句型及固定表达积累太少。為此,当学生在没有足够的语言输入情况下进行书面交际,必然会产生大量不规范的语言输出,从而影响输出的质量。由此可见,语言输入是培养学生书面交际能力的先导。我国传统的语文教学及外语教学都十分重视背诵输入,这是因为,背诵输入材料源于教材,易于学生理解和吸收。通过背诵,学生能加深理解和巩固所学的语法知识,牢记常用词汇、句型及固定表达,增强语言知识的积累,强化语言输入,为语言输出奠定扎实的基础。

2.背诵输入可降低学生的情感焦虑

Krashen的情感过滤假说认为,二外学习者的情感状态或态度,如动机、自信、焦虑可影响习得所必须的输入(Krashen and Terrel.1983)。为此,教师应设法降低学生的焦虑程度,尽量用熟悉的方法向学生提供可理解输入。背诵是我国学生十分熟悉的方法,他们从小就有背诵的经历,加之所背内容也是他们所熟悉的,因而乐于接受这一输入方法,并会表现出一定的兴趣和自信。这样,便可降低学生的焦虑程度,促使学生积累写作输出所必需的语言知识。

3.背诵可增强语感

加拿大语言学家Bialystok(1978)的语言学习的理论将外语学习者的语言分为显性语言知识和隐性语言知识两种。显性语言知识即学习者意识层中的所有目标语的语言知识。隐性语言知识指那些内化了的语言知识。它们存在于学习者的潜意识层中,学习者不一定能清晰地表达出来,但能不加思索流利地使用语言,这便是人们常说的语感。这种模式给我们的启示是.“一个人的隐性语言知识越多.他熟练使用目标语的程度就越高”。背诵输入加强了对学生语言知识的积累和巩固。因而能将原本是显性的语言知识转化为隐性的语言知识。学生的语感也因此而形成,随着背诵输入的不断增加,学生对所学的目标语语言现象的敏感度会不断增强,隐性语言知识将不断得到扩展,语感也将不断增强。当学生的隐性语言知识不断得到扩展、语感不断增强时,这标志着他们已具有许多目标语的语言形式和规则的知识,这一切有助于学生摆脱母语干扰,更加熟练地运用目标语进行书面交流。

4.结论

英语写作一直是我国大学英语教学的薄弱环节,这严重地妨碍了学生英语写作交际能力的提高。究其根源,还在于学生的语言输入不足。所储备、积累的语言知识太少.尤其缺乏内化了的隐性语言知识。为此,当前我们在着重语言输出的同时应注重语言输入。由于我国学生是在母语为汉语的非自然语境中学习英语,背诵输入不失为一种最佳的方法,易于学生接受、理解和吸收。通过背诵,可强化学生的语言输入.扩展学生的隐性语言知识,增强学生的语感,弥补学生脱离目标语语境的不足,排除母语干扰,克服英语写作中的困难,从而使学生熟练地运用目标语,真正提高写作能力。
